September Notes — Food, Family & Fresh Discoveries

Updated: Oct 12

September was one of those months that felt full in the best possible way — the kind that keeps you moving but leaves you smiling at the end of each day. Between exploring new ideas, caring for our first four-legged guest, and enjoying family time, it’s been a month that reminded me how closely food, wellbeing, and connection are intertwined.

A Taste of the Future

Early in the month, I visited the Future of Food exhibition at the Science Museum. It was fascinating to see how technology and sustainability are shaping what we might eat in the years ahead. It left me thinking about how much potential there is for simple, wholesome food — real ingredients, cooked with care — even as the world evolves around us.

A New Kind of Guest

We also looked after our very first dog boarder! It’s been such a joyful (and slightly chaotic) experience having another set of paws in the house. There’s something grounding about the rhythm that animals bring — the walks, the cuddles, the funny little habits that instantly become part of your day.

Supporting Small Shifts

My current nutrition client, a 20-year-old student, is now in week seven of her eight-week programme, and she’s doing incredibly well. It’s been beautiful to watch her confidence with food grow, her energy steady, and her understanding of balance deepen. Helping someone find that connection between nourishment and wellbeing feels so rewarding — it’s why I love this work.

Family Moments & Autumn Magic

September also brought some family warmth. We had relatives over for a cozy autumn meet-up, and Lentil outdid herself creating Boo baskets (full of tiny seasonal surprises!). Coconut, my mum, added her creative touch with handmade Halloween cards and decorations. I love how each of us has our way of celebrating the season — it makes home feel so alive.

Small Experiments

On a more personal note, I’ve been reading about sleep and trying out a bit of time-restricted eating. To my surprise, it’s come quite naturally. It’s less about restriction and more about rhythm — listening to my body, eating mindfully, and giving digestion some rest time. I’ll share more once I’ve had a few more weeks to see how it settles in.

October and Onward

Looking ahead, October already feels exciting. We have another dog booked for boarding (the house will be lively again!), and we’ve just celebrated Black Bean’s birthday with an incredible lunch at KOL in London. Their approach to Mexican cuisine — using fresh, local ingredients — was inspiring. It reminded me that great food doesn’t have to travel far; it just needs thoughtfulness and passion.

As the days shorten and the soups simmer a little longer, I’m leaning into slower rhythms, nourishing food, and simple joys — a good meal, good company, and maybe a sleepy dog at my feet.
